POLICE CLOSE CASE ON 12 B&ES

WASAGA BEACH -- Huronia West OPP officers closed 12 cases of break and enters after they stopped a van last weekend on Shore Lane last weekend.

According to police, officers were monitoring traffic on Sunnidale Road in a cruise equipped with an automatic plate recognition system; the system picked up on a white van headling northbound with a stolen licence plate.

Officers followed the van, and eventually stopped it on Shore Lane.

A search of the van turned up a quantity of stolen property; the subsequent investigation by the OPP's street crime unit determined the property came from break-ins in Grey County, Meaford, Oro-Medonte, Springwater, Clearview, and Severn.

Two people were charged; a 29-year-old man from Severn Township, and a 27-year-old woman from Owen Sound.

The man has been charged with two counts of possession of stolen property, four counts of credit card forgery, eight counts of break and enter, theft under $5,000, and three counts of break and enter with intent.

The woman faces two counts of possession of stolen property.

VEHICLE BREAK-INS

STAYNER -- Huronia West OPP officers are investigating after thieves rifled through four unlocked cars parked at homes on Datas Drive, Dominion Drive, and Main Street on the weekend.

According to police, the thieves made off with a wallet, a tape cassette player, and a Garmin GPS.

IMPAIRED DRIVING

COLLINGWOOD -- A 40-year-old Toronto man has been charged after police found a driver asleep behind the wheel of his car.

According to Collingwood OPP, officers came across the vehicle after a complaint was made of a vehicle stopped at a green light at Balsam and First, Saturday afternoon.

Police determined the driver was under the influence of alcohol; at the detachment for further testing, police say the man had more than three times the legal blood-alcohol limit.

The man is scheduled to appear in Collingwood court on June 15.

POLICE SEIZE BATON AFTER FIGHT

WASAGA BEACH -- A 22-year-old Concord man has been charged after Huronia West OPP officers were called to break up a fight, early Saturday morning.

According to police, two groups were involved in the altercation at a motel on Mosley Street. Police say one of the participants had a gun; officers later located a suspect and seized a black BB handgun and a metal expandable baton.

The man has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. His first court date is July 20.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT

WASAGA BEACH -- A 20-year-old Toronto man has been charged after officers responded to a assault call, Tuesday night.

According to Huronia West OPP, officers received a 9-1-1 call that a woman has been assaulted while in a vehicle carked at the RecPlex.

Police say an argument between the suspect and the woman had escalated, with the man punching the woman twice in the face. Police say she was also threatened.

Police say the woman was not seriously injured.

Police say a check on the suspect determined he was in breach of a previous court order; he was also charged with assault and uttering threats.

He made a court appearance on Wednesday.
