New writer excited to be part of team 0
If you're wondering about the person behind the new byline, my name is Hannah Vanderkooy and I am the newest member of the team at the Collingwood Enterprise-Bulletin.
I am excited and thankful for the opportunity to be working for the E-B as a multi-media reporter.
I recently graduated from Humber College's post-grad Journalism program where I gained experience writing for the campus newspaper and online publication as well as creating video news reports. I am grateful to have a job in my field right out of school.
I am the second reporter, following Kristen Smith, to be hired under the program created by Sun Media to take on new journalism grads and develop them -- under the direction of Morgan Ian Adams -- to be multi-media reporters for the Sun Media chain. It's a program that gives new journalists a foot in the door in a national news organization with papers across the country and a 24-hour news television station.
I may be fresh to the newsroom, but I hope to enhance the reading experience both in the paper and online. In addition to writing articles for both the newspaper and the website, I will be providing photo galleries and video reports to accompany the stories on www.theenterprisebulletin.com.
My parents bought a condo in Collingwood a few years ago, and ever since I have seized every opportunity I can to spend a weekend here. The glistening water and the escarpment make this town a place that draws people from all over, including myself.
I am lucky for the chance to live here.
I am looking forward to getting to know the people of Collingwood and the surrounding areas. While at the Enterprise-Bulletin I hope to continue the column 'Unsung Heroes' that Kristen started. If you know anyone in the South Georgian Bay area who fits the role of an unsung hero, please let me know by calling 705-445-4611 ext 223 or email me at hannah.vanderkooy@sun-media.ca.
