First hours of long weekend busy for police 0

WASAGA BEACH — Only 15 hours in, and already 20 people have spent time in the cells of the Huronia West detachment.

On Saturday morning, Huronia West OPP released the first set of statistics from the long weekend, and so far it's pretty sobering — unlike some of the folks who are spending time in the lock-up.

Between 6 p.m. on Friday, and 9 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to 75 calls, including four assaults, a theft, three collisions, and a case of impaired driving. Police also issued 21 Liquor Licence Act charges, along with three charges under the Trespass to Property Act.

Of the 20 people who were behind bars, 10 were because they were intoxicated in a public place.
