Boy found in bay dies 0
WASAGA BEACH — Huronia West OPP say a boy found in Georgian Bay, Wednesday, has died.
Police say the nine-year-old, who reportedly disappeared around 4 p.m. near the water near Kirby Lane in the east end of Wasaga Beach, was declared dead after rescuers pulled him from the water two hours later and rushed him to Collingwood's General and Marine Hospital.
According to a release from police, the OPP thanked those who were involved in the search both onshore and offshore yesterday and reminded swimmers of all ages to be cautious around any open water; if you are not a strong swimmer or are unfamiliar with the water you are swimming in, the use of a personal floatation device (PFD) is strongly recommended.
Police also noted that although the investigation is continuing, no further information will be released regarding this incident. The boy has not been identified.
Marine units from the Wasaga Beach fire department, the Collingwood/Blue Mountains OPP, the provincial park, as well as the OPP's helicopter, were involved in a ground and water search.
