After a disastrous first quarter, things looked bleak for the Orillia Secondary School Nighthawks senior boys football team who found themselves down 15-0 against a strong Innisdale Secondary School squad.

Orillia dominates in season opener

The Orillia Secondary School (OSS) senior boys opened the Simcoe County high-school football season with a dominant 27-0 victory over Collingwood Collegiate Institute (CCI) Thursday afternoon at the West Orillia Sports Complex.

Katie Browne, a Grade 9 student at St. Joseph's Catholic High School in Barrie, was named female athlete of the month for May. She is a key member of the Jaguars' junior girls basketball and volleyball teams, which both won Georgian Bay Secondary Schools Association (GBSSA) championships this year. SUBMITTED

Browne, Abbruzzese named top athletes

The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board's Catholic School Athletics of Simcoe County (CSASC) has named its top male and female athletes for the month of May, as well as highlighting one of its teachers who has been instrumental in the high-school sports community.

Triple threat on the court

Through their four years of high school, Jean Vanier Catholic High School athletes Jonathan Abbruzzese, Kevin Bontje and Jake Remnant have had a lot in common. Now they can add qualifying for the provincial tennis championships for the first time to their roster.
