The Collingwood United Soccer Club Boys team sponsored by Beachcomber Hot Tubs, finished their season triumphantly by winning the prestigious Richmond Hill Challenge Tournament U16/17 Boys title with a convincing 3-1 victory over Glen Shileds FC from Thornhill this past weekend. Victories on Saturday over Ajax FC 2-1 and Richmond Hill 3-0 overcame the team's only loss in a middday game memorable for the pouring rain and muddy conditions and earned the team a wildcard semi final clash against Unionville. The team dominated ball possession in that game with the trio of Ewan Bothelo, Ben Gallo and Erik Ohrling owning the midfield and Sean O'Donnell netting the winner in a 1-0 victory. Led by the acrobatic goaltending of Jacob Woods, disciplined team play and some help from the goal posts, the team rallied against an overconfident Glen Shields team in the final and overcame a 1-0 deficit with an emphatic strike by Neil Aitken leading the comeback. Captain Freddie Pickess credited his teammates for 'rising to the occasion' and hoisted the victors' Golden ShinPad trophy to rousing cheers from teammates and supporters capping a successful weekend and season.
