Makiing A Difference Through Sport and Recreation

Jumpstart month marked several Jumpstart Kick Off events for Canadian Tire stores in the Simcoe region. It takes a team effort of community and staff to help raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program.

The Canadian Tire Wasaga and Collingwood stores were fortunate enough to have Phil, one of our volunteers, step up to the plate and give a helping hand. Phil grew up in the projects and always had the support of his community. “The community centre was my life. It was a place to get away from the violence and drugs, a place that brought hope. “It is where he attributes his appreciation of the many community initiatives delivered through organizations such as the Canadian Tire Jumpstart program and the YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka.

After suffering work related injuries Phil was faced with challenges owing to his physical limitations and wanted to make a change in his own life where he could make a difference for youth. In addition to volunteering his time, Phil looks forward to enrolling in a two year program in social work and hopes to involve more youth in their community through sport and recreation.

2015 marked the 10th year for Jumpstart to meet a benchmark of having served over 1 million kids nationwide.
